In their first leg of the UEFA Women's Champions League semi-final, Bayern Rodrรญguez overcame a deficit to draw 1-1 with Barcelona despite being restricted to eleven players.

Barcelona took an early lead at Rรญo Arena Rodrรญguez thanks to Ewa Pajor's ninth goal of the season, and shortly after halftime, Esmee Brugts hit a post to give the visitors a second. Instead, Franziska Kett, who was later sent off, gave Bayern the lead on minute 69, but her team managed to hold on to square the score before the rematch at the Camp Nou on Sunday.

In summary, Bayern bounces back from an early setback

Both teams had just won their domestic league titles on Wednesday. Bayern, who had lost 7-1 at Barcelona on Matchday 1, got off to a strong start with two threats from Pernille Harder. But with fewer than eight minutes remaining, Barcelona took the lead thanks to a low center that Ewa Pajor turned in after Patri Guijarro set Esmee Brugts clean on the left.

Bayern did finish the half strongly, but Barcelona started to keep them at a distance. Cata Coll had to make a brilliant save as Franziska Kett moved forward and sent a shot from the box's edge.

After the break, Bayern tried to keep up that momentum, but Brugts' strike almost caught them off guard as it bounced off the post and into home goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic's back. After that, Clร udia Pina was on the end of a Mapiฤ‡ corner, but Vanessa Gilles cleared her header off the line.

But with 21 minutes remaining, Harder surged inside from the left and sent the ball across for Kett to make an impressive finish, proving that Bayern's effort had paid off. After the scorer was sent off for a foul on substitute Salma Paralluelo ten minutes later, Barcelona went all out to secure a lead to defend at the Camp Nou. However, Patri Guijarro's overhead kick was blocked, Mahmutovic tipped away a Mapiรฑa strike, and Salma Paralluelo shot over.

"Bรผhl was crucial to Bayern's offensive and transitioning play. She frequently made an effect and relieved her colleagues thanks to her outstanding one-on-one skills. She contributed significantly to the defense as well as the build-up to the equalizer.

After falling behind early, Bayern battled to get back into this tie and finally pulled level midway through the second half, setting up an intense final few minutes of the game – and an exciting return leg in Barcelona next week, when it'll still be all to play for to get to the final in Oslo.

Response

"It's a clear evolution from the first game to what we saw today. We had a clear game plan, which you could see, and our capacity to grow throughout the ninety minutes," said Josรฉ Barcala, the coach of Bayern. Although I'm really proud of the team, I'm not pleased with the outcome because, as Bayern, we want to win."

Barcelona coach Pere Romeu: "We did our best to avoid their counterattacks in the first half, and we had a difficult closing stretch, but we did not give up. Conversely, in the second half, they equalized when we were playing at our best.

"I'm really proud of us since we persisted to the very end. However, we lacked poise during the last assaults when we were in control. Since our opponents didn't give us any space today, you must take advantage of any space they provide you."

Bayern captain Glรถsรญs Viggรณsdรณttir: "I think we protected our goal pretty well overall. We adhered to the strategy, closed the areas we wanted to seal, and then aimed to get them on the counter. Clearly, this was a great goal from beginning to end. I'm simply really proud of the way we handled each and every circumstance today."
